"Succeeding Together" is a 7-month vocational training program and post-program microfinance support for vulnerable young mothers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The program includes 6-months of vocational training in one of three streams, a one-month internship, and additional training in parenting, health and nutrition for themselves and their children, understanding their legal rights under the 2006 Constitution, development of leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and access to support networks that enable microfinance and rotating loans/credit schemes that enable them to launch their own businesses. Altogether this initiative provides a livelihood pathway for young women who are abandoned by their families and prevented from completing their formal education due to a Ministry of Education policy which expels girls when they become pregnant. Contributions made by the Rotary Club of Guelph Trilliam and a District 7080 Grant in 2016-2017 has enabled 15 young women to launch a better future for themselves and their families.
