End Polio Now Luncheon - Speaker Notes
StreetKeepers International

Director:  Maneesh Jain

The Foundation director guides and assists the members of this club in developing and carrying out International Service Projects and raising funds for The Rotary Foundation.  There are currently 5 subcommittees operating in this area.

Rotary Foundation Funds:
This committee promotes the Rotary Foundation to the club members.  They provide members with information on the work of the Foundation, ways to contribute, and the benefits of annual contributions.

A key area of focus for this committee for the next three years (ending December 31, 2010) is the "End Polio Now" campaign.  The committee has identified various opportunities for raising money and awareness in the push to finally eradicate Polio worldwide.  See the committee's plans in the power point presentation attached above.

International Program Development:
This subcommittee works to locate new international programs/projects that fit within the club's annual goals/mandate and which also, where possible, qualify for funds under the Rotary Foundation Matching Grants program.

Youth Exchange Program:
This subcommittee annually evaluates the ability/interest of the club in hosting an exchange student.  When sufficient members are interested, this committee organizes the host families and counsellors and ensures that the student's needs are met during their stay.

Opportunity Village:
This committee organized in 2006/07 is furthering our relationship with the Government of Nepal, Sister Priscilla and Opportunity Village to construct a greenhouse for them.

Dr. Jim Thompson Scholarship:
Several years ago, a fund was established to finance an annual scholarship for the education of a young student in Nepal.  For many years, the club sent a young boy, Berat, to school by paying for his tuition, housing and school uniform.  He has recently graduated from school.  Two new students in India have now been granted annual support.
