Dr. Jim Thompson joined the Rotary Club of Guelph-Trillium in
1992. In our first year, 1991-1992, the club became very involved in International Service.  In January, 1992, Jim addressed our club and told the compelling story of the building of an orphanage in Nepal, one of the world’s poorest countries. The
club agreed to support the building of a new facility to house more than 40 children. Street Keeper’s International for Children, which supports orphanages in India, keeping children off the streets, came along in our second decade of service. Since the beginning of our club, International Service has been high on our list of priorities.
The Dr. Jim Thompson Scholarship was introduced in 1992 and provided a scholarship for a student from Nepal. The first recipient was Bharat Bisenklea, whom we supported for many years until he completed his High School education. Since that time, other students have been supported with the purchase of school uniforms, books, supplies and tuition through the Jim Thompson Scholarship.
